Please note, this pretty sink--unfortunately--is not mine
I'm slowly adjusting to life with baby: it's not that life is tough with her around, but it's sure tough to get things done when all I want to do is play and coo at her...or take a nap when she naps because I'm tuckered out, too!
Housekeeping has been on the back burner; Mr. J was an angel and spent Sunday afternoon, with my begrudging help, getting us all caught up. I'm still working on finding a routine that works for us at this feeding-all-the-time-unless-we're-both-napping phase, but one thing that I started and am easily sticking to? I shine my sink every night.
I've never been able to follow all of the FlyLady plans (and found the gazillion emails overwhelming), but I do like waking up to a clean, shiny sink. I feel more in control, probably because in order to get a shiny sink, the dishes have to be done and put away. And if I'm in the kitchen in the evening, I may as well put Mr. J's lunch together, instead of hustling around in the morning. And if the sink is clean but the counters are dirty, everything looks funny. And if I clean off the counters, there's stuff on the floor that needs to be swept up...
Suddenly, the motivation to do one little thing creates the drive to do a bunch of other little things that would otherwise seem overwhelming. And even of those would-be overwhelming things don't get done...at least I have a shiny sink.
When you're behind, what gets you back on track?

I know exactly what you mean. I've followed Flylady since I was pregnant with my youngest who just turned 8 (yikes!). No matter how bad the house gets, I know in the back of my mind the simple basics. Shine your sink, and Babysteps! So, if I'm disgusted with my kitchen or even my kids, I'll shine my sink, and there's something about it that just makes you feel better. Another "Shiny Sink" is a made bed. The bedroom just looks and feels better when the bed is made. Kind of a good way to just start the day right.
Patty,
I definitely agree about making the bed; it's the first thing I do in the morning! I once heard Martha Stewart say that if the bed is made, the room looks 40% clean--not bad for a single task!
How do you shine your sink?
